992EG BOUTIQUE TUBE MIC PREAMP

Two channel vacuum tube instrument and microphone preamplifier
STREET PRICE: $4299

LaChapell Audio tube mic preamp for the recording studio 20 years badgeNo recording studio is complete without a LaChapell Audio 992EG.  The 992EG is two channel fully balanced tube mic preamp and instrument input amplifier. Meticulously hand assembled, every aspect of the 992 speaks to our dedication to quality of sound and solid, robust construction. From the Cinemag and Jensen transformers to the knobs and switches, the 992EG is gorgeous inside and out.

With a total of eight vacuum tubes (2x 12AX7/ECC83 input stage and 2x 12AU7/ECC82 output stage tubes per channel), the 992EG tube mic preamp is known for its warm melodic character and rich low-end response.

What makes the 992 such a powerful preamplifier is the level of control the user has over both the input and output stages. Separate input and output knobs allow the user to throttle gain in or out of either the input stage (for loads of character) or the output stage (for a more clear, transparent response). This makes the 992 one of the most flexible preamplifiers available in today’s recording studio market.

    DUAL DRIVE KNOBS

The Dual Drive knobs on the LaChapell 992EG provide an incredible array of tonal options. Favoring the input knob will increase the signal going into the tube, resulting in more harmonics and overall distortion. Favoring the output know yields a very clean signal. Together, you can dial in sounds from pristine to warm and harmonically rich making the 992 one of the most versatile pieces of gear in your recording studio.

    VERSATILE TONE WITH PAD SWITCH

The pad switch not only provides a -20dB gain reduction for high input sources, it also works with the Dual Drive knobs to create color and headroom options. Engage the pad to dial in warm tones with lots of headroom.

    FRONT PANEL HI-Z INPUT

The front panel Hi-Z input allows you to plug a bass or other instrument directly into the 992EG. As an instrument front end, the 992EG provides natural tube compression and harmonics to bass, keys, and other instruments that can use some analog tube warmth and fatness.

992EG REVIEW AND QUOTES

“I’ve been using the 992 now for several years and it is my “go to” mic/line instrument preamp for all of my recordings. It is clean and any mic or instrument that I plug into it sounds good. I use it for acoustic guitars, vocals and other instruments as well. It is a fine piece of professional recording gear that I highly recommend!” – Phil Keaggy, Guitarist

I’ve used my LaChapell 992 as my primary go to vocal preamp for a number of years.  It responds flawlessly, without over coloring, when paired with a large diaphragm microphone. I’ve recorded a wide variety of vocalists though it (Keb Mo, Frank Stallone, Andrew W.K., Randy Stonehill, Phil Keaggy, Terry Blackwood, Kenny Marks, Margaret Becker, Wayne Berry & The McCrary Sisters – to name a few) and they’ve all been delighted with the results.” – Mike Pachelli, Engineer/Producer

“The LaChapell 992EG is the crème de la crème in the world of high voltage stereo tube mic preamps. Achieving the difficult and delicate balance of rich/creamy tube sound with an incredibly high level of detail places the 992EG in an elite club that few others can claim to be a part of.” – Chuck Giardino, Sound Pure Pro Audio Specialist
