583S MK2 TUBE MIC PREAMP

500 SERIES VACUUM TUBE MICROPHONE PREAMP MODULE

The world’s first 500 format tube mic preamplifier.

The LaChapell 583S MKM2 is still the only 500 series module to guarantee a properly powered tube with a full 250V via our exclusive TrueTube™ technology. Unlike most of today's 500 series tube designs, we do not 'starve' the tube of proper voltage to accomodate the 500 frame's power supply. You can even max out a rack with 583 units with no power or heat issues.

Every component on the LaChapell 583S MK2 was carefully selected for sonic perfection from the Cinemag input transformer to the Jensen output transformer.

With dual drive knobs to separately drive the input and output, the 583S provides total flexibility to explore a broad sonic palette enhancing its versatility for all of your recordings. Leaning on the input stage, the 583S MK2 delivers vintage style tube warmth. The more you drive the input, the more harmonics are introduced. Backing off on the input but increasing the output results in gorgeous clean tones with some weight provided by the Cinemag and Jensens transformers.

583S MK2: The essential 500 series tube pre for the modern professional and project recording studio!

FEATURES

DUAL DRIVE KNOBS
The Dual Drive knobs on LaChapell's preamps provide an infinite array of tonal options. Favoring the input knob increases the signal going to the tube, resulting in more harmonics and overall distortion. Favoring the output knob yields a very clean signal. Together, you can dial in sounds from pristine to warm and harmonically rich.

VERSATILE TONE WITH PAD
The pad switch not only provides a -20dB gain reduction for high input sources, it also works with the Dual Drive knobs to create color and headroom options. Engage the pad to dial in warm tones with
lots of headroom.

TRUETUBE™ 250V POWER
TrueTube™ technology supplies both the plate and filament of the tube with the proper voltages they need to access the full characteristics of the tube. Other 500 series modules cannot supply the needed 250V and don’t have the headroom or harmonics that characterize that classic tube sound.

VPR ALLIANCE CERTIFIED
This credential is your assurance that the 583S MK2 operates within specifications. Even though we properly power the tube with 250V, the 583S draws a only a modest amount of power from the frame. You can fill a VPR approved 500 frame with 583S modules with no problems whatsoever.

FRONT PANEL HI-Z INPUT
The front panel Hi-Z input allows you to plug a bass or other instrument directly into the 983S. As an instrument front end, the 983S adds natural tube compression and harmonics to any input source.

583S MK2 RAVES & REVIEWS

“Another revolution was the first 500 Series module that featured a tube stage. Running a tube that requires 250V on a +/- 16V supply might seem impossible, but that is what engineers are for: accomplishing the impossible. It was a challenge, one that father/son team Mark and Scott LaChapell accepted for the LaChapell 583 tube preamp introduced in 2006… I have used the now-discontinued 583 (two slot model) for many recordings and it’s a very sweet piece of gear that doesn’t sound compromised in any way. Presently there’s a double-slot 583e with EQ and the newest 583s Mk2 that fits in a single slot.” –  Lynn Fuston

“I’ve been using the 992 now for several years and it is my “go to” mic/line instrument preamp for all of my recordings. It is clean and any mic or instrument that I plug into it sounds good. I use it for acoustic guitars, vocals and other instruments as well. It is a fine piece of professional recording gear that I highly recommend!”
